Narayan Nagbali is a three-day Hindu ritual performed at Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga near Nasik. The Narayan Bali is performed to fulfil the unsatisfied wishes of the souls of the deceased ancestors, and the Nag Bali is performed to get rid of the curse caused by killing a cobra.
Narayan Nagbali follows the same ritual as Hindu funeral.
During this pooja, the priest uses an artificial body made of wheat flour and chants mantras. These mantras invoke the bad omens or souls that have certain unfulfilled desires.
This ritual helps them to take possession of the artificial body made of wheat flour. Moreover, the funeral frees the family from any sin and sends the soul peacefully to another world. It helps the soul to reach the highest state of salvation from the cycle of human birth and death. Through this ritual, the soul of a deceased person who has suffered an abnormal death is relieved.

It is also recommended to perform maharudra or lakhurudra at Trimbakeshwar. Many dharamshalas are within walking distance from the main temple. The Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga is one of the 5 Jyotirlingas in Maharashtra. There are a total of 12 Jyotirlingas in India.
What is the cost of performing Narayan Nagbali?
Narayan Nagbali is a 3-day puja for which you need proper accommodation and a purohit to perform the puja. One Brahmin or Pandit performs the puja. However, several pandits are needed to perform the puja.
The cost of performing the puja is about 7,000 to 8,000 rupees. This does not include the new clothes and the gold pratima. These have to be brought by you.
The amount for the puja includes the dakshina of the pandits and the cost of the samugri.
The cost for the most basic rooms is Rs. 500 per day.
The cost of food per plate is Rs. 100. The food will be prepared at the hotel where you will stay. For 100 rupees you will get dal, rice, roti and sabji.
Before starting the pooja, it is very important to take a holy bath in Kushavarta Kund. This puja requires special dates to perform it. There are some days that are not suitable for this pooja.
How to perform Narayan Nagbali?
Here is how to perform Narayan Nagbali:
Day 1:
Reach Trimbakeshwar in the evening before the puja begins.
On the first day of this ritual, take a holy bath in the Kushavarta.After the bath ear completely new clothes. Men should wear new dhoti and women should wear new sarees.
After that go to the Kushawarth Tirtharaj in Trayambakeshwar with a coconut, 5 supari and dakshina and perform the prathna.
Those whose father is still alive do not have to perform 'mundan' or make themselves bald
Those who do not have a living father must have their hair cut.
To perform the Sankalp, you need to go to the 'Shamshaan' which is located behind the Shivji Temple in Trimbakeshwar. There, preparations are made to perform the vidhaan.
After the Sankalp, a puja is performed to worship 5 Kalash.
After that, the 6 murtis of Bal Gopal, Vishnu, Bramha, Shankar, Yumraj and Tath Purush are worshipped.
Then perform the Havan.
Then perform the 11 Pindh Shraddh for Lord Vishnu and 5 Pind Shraddh for Lord Bramha and the other 5 deities. In total, you have to do 16 Pind Shraddhs.
We do a beautiful pind to perform the puja. While performing the puja, we worship it. We pray that it wipes out all the Pitru Dosh of the family.
After that,we offer one of these pinds to the crows to eat.
After that, we make a human doll and worship it with all the mantras and precepts by placing it on a coconut. After the puja is performed, declare it dead and burn it.
After that, perform her Dashakriya Vidhaan like any other human being.
Repeat the mantra "Om Namah Bhagvate Vasudeva" throughout the day.
Day 2:
The next day, after taking another bath in the kund, wear the same cloth as the previous day.
Then go to the shamshaan again.
Then perform the Sapindh Shradh (11 Vidhi and 12 Vidhi Shradh) of the human doll that was worshipped and burned the previous day.
After performing the Shradh, we do a 'Pratima' of a Nag or snake on a flour or 'Ata'.
We worship them again and then declare them dead. After that, we also burn them.
It is believed that the snake or nag has 8 doshas. Perform this 8 doshas puja plus the Nag Pratima puja. In total, perform the puja for 9 doshas. Then finish the Vidhaan.
Then spend the day saying "Om Namah Bhagvate Namah" continuously.
Day 3:
On the third day, the Ganesh Pooja is performed so that the devotees can begin all the good things that lie ahead.
You have to bring a golden Nag Partima or Murti and worship it.
After that, the Narayan Nagalika Vidhaan is completed.
The rest of the day you have to continuously say the mantra 'Om Namah Bhagvate Namah'.
