Here we define Geotagging and the importance of Geotagging in your business. You should click here if you want to know more details about geotagging and its importance.
Geotagging provides helpful insights into consumer activity. By using geotags to analyze where and how consumers interact with their brands, companies can provide special offers and messaging. Geotags also provide insight into where people are when they interact with a website or where they move throughout the day on their mobile device.
What is Geotagging?
As the name suggests, geotagging is about "tagging" a geographic location with a status update, tweet, photo, or other online posting. This is especially useful because many people now share content on their favorite social networks from their smartphones or tablet computers while they're on the go, so they're not always in a specific location like they used to be when we could only access the Internet from a desktop computer.
Why Geotags on social networks?
When you geotag your posts, your friends and followers get a deeper insight into where you're and what you're doing. For example, if you tweet about a restaurant downtown, you can tag the restaurant's location in your post so everyone knows where you're and visit (or even avoid, depending on what you post about). Or if you're posting photos from a vacation, you can tag the specific hotel, resort, or other location to give people an idea of the places you're visiting.
What is Geotagging in Android?
Android phone cameras can add geotags, but you need to adjust some settings. Navigate to your Android device's settings, tap Location, and enable GPS Use satellites. Back on the main screen, launch the camera, tap Menu > Settings, and scroll to Save Location in Pictures (or Geotag Photos, depending on your OS version). Tap OK when you see a message about GPS. Your photos will now be geotagged.
How do I turn off Geotagging on an iPhone?
To remove geotags from iPhone pictures, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Camera and tap Never. You can also select "Ask next time" or "When sharing" to allow geotagging on a case-by-case basis.
How can I disable Geotagging on an Android device?
To disable geotagging on an Android device, launch the Camera app, tap Settings (gear icon) and uncheck Save Location. Or go to Settings > Apps > Camera > Permissions and disable Location.
Popular social networks that support Geotagging
When you post a status update or other media post on Facebook, you should see a small location icon that you can click to "check in" to a location. Use the drop-down menu to select a nearby location or search for a specific location. Your location will be displayed next to your Facebook post.
Geotag your tweets on Twitter
Similar to Facebook, Twitter also has a location icon in the tweet composer that you can click or tap to find a nearby location. Your location will be displayed below your tweet when it's published.
Geotag your Instagram photos and videos
Instagram is all about sharing on the go. Every time you post a new video or photo, you can add a location in the Caption tab. When you add a location, that photo or video is also saved to that location on your personal Instagram map (in your profile).
Geotagging your Snapchat photos and videos
If you use Snapchat, you can take a photo or video and then swipe right to add a fun sticker that changes based on your location.
Your device or computer will probably ask you for permission to access your location first, so you'll need to allow that before you can start geotagging. Make sure you use geotagging safely and responsibly.
If your social profile's visibility is set to "public," remember that anyone can see a location you post. If you do not want to share your location publicly, either set your profile to "private" so that only approved followers can see it, or refrain from posting it altogether.
Geotagging Techniques
The basis for geotagging is location. In almost all cases, position is derived from the global positioning system and is based on a latitude/longitude coordinate system that represents each location on Earth in a coordinate that ranges from 180° west to 180° east along the equator and from 90° north to 90° south along the prime meridian.
Geotagging standards in electronic file formats are:
1. JPEG photos
2. HTML pages
3. Geotagging in tag-based systems
4. Geoblogging
5. GeoTagging on Twitter
Explanation of Geotagging
Geotagging services can be used to find location-specific websites, messages, and other information. They are based on positions and coordinates and are often taken directly from a global positioning system (GPS).
Some social networking sites and services reveal the location of their users so that users know exactly where their friends are when they are logged into the site (or check in to the service).
When photos are tagged, it can be done with the camera after the shot has been edited, or it can be applied when the photo is posted online. Most cell phones have a built-in GPS, so they can geotag all photos taken with the cell phone camera.
Why is Geotagging important?
Several facilities are being created in the states under various Department of Agriculture programmes.
Also under the RKVY programme, states have used significant funds to create infrastructure/facilities in agriculture and related sectors, such as soil testing laboratories, pesticide testing laboratories, and biofertilizer production facilities.
Monitoring such widespread activities is of utmost importance for states and GOI to understand the flow of funds, inventory facilities, provide transparency, plan facilities for the future, and ultimately inform farmers of available facilities.

The Ministry of Rural Development has already started geotagging MGNREGA and the Ministry of Land Resources for watershed monitoring in the states.
The Post Office has also geotagged its post offices using the NRSC-Bhuvan platform.
