A number of universities affiliated with the NLU consortium conduct the CLAT examination for admission.

Until 2018, the CLAT exam was administered by NLUs on a rotating basis. However, beginning in 2019, the Consortium of NLUs, an organization established by the NLUs, is responsible for administering CLAT. This organization is based at NLSIU in Bangalore.
